Liz Liz Healey is the founding Executive Director of the Parent Education and Advocacy Leadership (PEAL) Center.Her experience as an advocate for children with disabilities and special health care needs began with the birth of her daughter.She believes that if others see disability as a natural part of the human experience her daughter will always have a place in our community.Prior to starting the PEAL Center, she worked for ARC Allegheny and the Children's Project of PA Protection & Advocacy, Inc. where she worked on systems reform to improve education and community services for children with disabilities.Through her work with the Every Child Deserves a Home and Family Coalition she focuses on increasing access to services for children with complex health care needs. She was a member of the Pittsburgh Board of Education for 8 years.She has also served as the President of TASH.She is a recipient of the Parent Award from the Center for Creative Play and the 1997 TASH Collaboration Award bestowed upon twenty-three people for “Standing Together to Advance the Voices of Families and Protect the Rights of Children with Disabilities Through the Shaping of IDEA 1997.” She was named by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette as one of 50 people who made a difference in education.She currently serves on the Governor's Commission for Children and Families, and the City of Pittsburgh/Allegheny County Task Force on Disabilities.Liz is a graduate of Cornell University.
